HPE MSA Storage has been providing shared storage solutions for HPE ProLiant Servers for decades. The Gen7 introduces several features that simplify routine system maintenance for the MSA controller and drives listed here.

The HPE MSA Health Check Tool is a cloud-based tool that provides real-time system health insights that enhance uptime and availability, while the Online Firmware Update feature allows for controller and drive firmware updates without system downtime.

MSA Gen6 models 2062 / 2060 / 1060 and Gen7 models 2072 / 2070 support a variety of MSA 2.5-inch Small Form Factor (SFF) drives and MSA 3.5-inch Large Form Factor (LFF) drives.

• Solid-State Drives (SSD) deliver the highest levels of performance and reliability.
• Enterprise (ENT) class SAS hard disk drives balance performance, capacity, and cost while delivering enterprise grade reliability.
• Midline SAS (MDL) hard disk drives are optimized to provide the best ratio of capacity to cost.

Both the MSA 2062/2060/1060 and MSA 2072/2070 utilize the same SFF and LFF expansion Disk Enclosures. All models support the mixing of SSDs, Enterprise SAS HDDs, and Midline SAS HDDs.

- The listed HDD and SSD drive options are compatible with MSA Gen6 and Gen7 Storage Systems only. Gen6 and Gen7 HDD and SSD drive options are not backward compatible with MSA Storage Systems prior to Gen6. Review the MSA Gen5 End Of Life Notification for details.

- Customers can mix SSD, Enterprise SAS, and SAS Midline (MDL) drives in the same array configuration.
- All drives within the HPE MSA array must be SED to enable the encryption feature.
