The HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 60 and MSA 20 are Direct Attached Storage (DAS) disk enclosures for increasing the storage capacity of your Proliant or Integrity Servers. These enclosures offer a great solution for users electing to not migrate data to a Storage Area Network (SAN).

RAID functionality is achieved when using an HP SmartArray controller or software mirror. Consult your RAID controller specifications for determining the largest disk drive type you can install. HP 600GB 15K SAS and 3/4/6TB SAS & SATA drives can be installed with newer HP (P812+) SmartArray controllers.

The HP StorageWorks 60 Modular Smart Array (MSA) enclosure is a 2U Serial Attach SCSI (SAS) disk drive storage enclosure that offers host connectivity via 3Gbps Serial Attached SCSI (SAS). This enclosure allows for the installation of up to twelve (12) low-cost SATA drives, SAS MDL (Midline), and/or SAS Disk Disks. Disk types may be mixed in the same enclosure. Only 3.5" Large Form Factor (LFF) drives are supported. The MSA60 supports the cascading of shelves in a 1+3 configuration to allow a maximum of 48 drives in an 8U configuration behind each port on the Smart Array P800 controller for a total of 96 drives in 8 enclosures. This single controller port incorporates four lanes for a total max throughput of 12Gb/s for SAS.

The MSA 20 offers host connectivity via U320 SCSI or 3Gbps SAS interfaces. This enclosures allows the attachment of high capacity, low-cost SATA drives to older servers with parallel SCSI RAID controllers and host bust adaptors.
