Overview

The IBM x3250 server has been revised over four different generations (M1-M4). M1-M2 share the same disk drives. M3 and M4 servers also share the same disk drives. The best way to determine which server you have is via the 4-digit IBM Type code on the front of your server. Normally new generations are based off of new Intel CPU generations, often changing sockets and Bus speeds, making making memory and CPU modules between generations incompatible.
