Overview
IBM EXP2512 and EXP2524 Storage enclosures enable flexible, low-cost storage capacity expansion of IBM System x servers to address growing storage needs. The EXP2500 delivers 6 Gb SAS disk storage technology in a compact, 2U, 19-inch rack mount enclosure that connects directly to select IBM System x servers using the IBM ServeRAID M5025 or M5120 SAS/SATA Controller. Storage capacity can be easily scaled by daisy-chain connection of multiple EXP2500 enclosures from a single ServeRAID controller port.
High-performance disk drives, high-capacity nearline disk drives, and flash (solid state) drives are supported. Drives of the same form factor can be intermixed within an enclosure, and EXP2512 and EXP2524 enclosures can be intermixed within a daisy-chain configuration. RAID technology and other advanced functions are provided through the ServeRAID controller.

The EXP2500 is available in two models:
• EXP2512 with twelve drive bays for 3.5-inch (LFF) drives
• EXP2524 with twenty-four drive bays for 2.5-inch (SFF) drives
The EXP2512 (1747-12X, 3331-HC1, 6100-HC1) Storage Enclosures support up to twelve (12) SAS and NL SAS 3.5-inch HDDs.
The EXP2524 (1747-24X, 3331-HC2, 6100-HC2) Storage Enclosures support up to twenty-four (24) 6Gbps SAS, NL SAS, and SSD 2.5-inch drives.

3 TB and 4 TB drives were not supported in BladeCenter configurations when they were introduced by IBM/Lenovo. Check IBM BladeCenter release notes for updated support information.

A four-digit Feature Code is used to specify a component that is configurable in the IBM configurators, the eBusiness Configurator (eConfig) and the IBM Web-based Hardware Configurator, used in US and Canada. Options that do not have feature codes cannot be integrated by IBM into a system using these IBM configurators. To purchase options separately, refer to the Option or SEO Part Number.
