Overview

The IBM TotalStorage DS4300 (FAStT600) is a high performance 2Gbps FC storage server. The DS4300 comes in two varieties:

The DS4300 Turbo can have up to 112 disks attached when using (7) EXP700 or EXP710 Expansion enclosures and 2GB of high performance controller cache.

The standard DS4300 can have up to 48 disks attached with the use of (3) EXP700 expansion enclosures. Non-turbo controllers have 512 MB of cache. Turbo upgrade kits are available.

The IBM EXP810 expansion unit with ESM firmware 9898 or higher is supported attaching to the DS4300, DS4500, DS4700, and DS4800 subsystems with controller firmware version 6.23.xx.xx and later. Version 9898 and higher is also required to support the intermix of EXP710 and EXP810 with EXP100 storage expansion enclosures behind the DS4300, DS4500, DS4700 and DS4800 storage subsystems with controller firmware version 6.23.xx.xx, 6.60.xx.xx and 7.xx.xx.xx and to support the intermixing of the Fibre Channel and SATA E- DDMs within the EXP810 drive expansion enclosure in any storage subsystem configuration.

Optional intermix licenses will allow you to use EXP100 SATA enclosures alongside your EXP700 and EXP710 enclosures for lower-tier storage requirements (e.g. backups.)
