IBM x3100 M4 Type 2582 Upgrades

The IBM X3100 (type 2582) is an entry level server, bordering on a high-end workstation. Two form factors were released: A mini-tower with a fixed ATX Power Supply and a full-tower with 1-2 HotSwap power supplies. Only (1) CPU is supported in the chassis. The fastest supported CPU is a Quad Core Intel Xeon E3-1280 3.5 GHz. Lower end Pentium, Core I-3, and Celeron CPUs are supported as well.

Memory is fairly straightforward to configure. There are (4) DIMM slots that support only unbuffered (unregistered DIMMs.) DIMMs must be installed in identical pairs. A maximum of 32GB of RAM can be installed via 4x 8GB PC3-12800 DIMMs.
