Overview

The IBM x255 (Type 8685) is a highly scalable server available in 7U rack mount or stand-alone tower configurations. Up to (4) 2.8Ghz Intel Xeon CPUs with a 533MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) can be installed for symmetric multiprocessing (SMP). (12) memory slots allow for the installation of 24GB of PC2100 ECC Registered memory which must be installed in matching quads of RDIMMs due to memory interleaving. [Note: You must be running a 64-Bit Operating System or 32-Bit OS with Physical Address Extension PAE support to address memory above the 4GB barrier.]

Up to (6) 300GB U320 SCSI disk modules can be installed in the front bays of the server with the standard configuration. An optional (6) Bay backplane can be installed below the standard bays to support up to (12) 300GB 10K U320 drives. The bays can be connected to separate channels on the integrated U320 SCSI controller or to an optional ServeRAID controller
