Overview

The IBM x346 (Type 8840 and 1880) is a highly scalable rack mount server. Up to (2) 3.4Ghz Intel Xeon CPUs with an 800MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) can be installed for symmetric multiprocessing (SMP). (8) memory slots allow for the installation of 16GB of PC3200 ECC Registered memory which must be installed in matching pairs of RDIMMs. [Note: You must be running a 64-Bit Operating System or 32-Bit OS with Physical Address Extension PAE support to address memory above the 4GB barrier.]

Up to (6) 300GB U320 SCSI disk modules can be installed in the front bays of the server. An optional tape drive limits the number of hot-swap disks to (4). An optional IBM ServeRAID controller can be used to add data protection across the internal drives and the addition of external EXP400 expansion arrays for increased storage.
