Overview
The IBM x226 (Type 8488,8648) is a highly scalable stand-alone server. Up to (2) 3.8Ghz Intel Xeon CPUs with an 800MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) can be installed for symmetric multiprocessing (SMP). (8) memory slots allow for the installation of 16GB of PC3200 ECC Registered memory which must be installed in matching pairs of DIMMs. [Note: You must be running a 64-Bit Operating System or 32-Bit OS with Physical Address Extension PAE support to address memory above the 4GB barrier.]
Drive Configuration Options:
Most x226 servers shipped with an U320 SCSI backplane which offered (6) bays for 300GB 10K U320 SCSI disk drives accessible from the front of the server. Other units featured (4) "simple swap" SATA bays accessible from the front of the server instead of the SCSI bays..
Systems shipped with an integrated ServeRAID 7econtroller which offered on-board RAID 0 and RAID 1 support for the (6) SCSI drives or (2) SATA drives. An upgraded controller is required before additional SATA drives can be installed or RAID-5 functionality can be activated. ServeRAID upgrades also allow for the attachment of external EXP400 expansion arrays.
