Overview

The IBM x255 (Type 8685) is a highly scalable server available in 7U rack mount or stand-alone tower configurations. Up to (2) 3.06Ghz Intel Xeon CPUs with a 533MHz FSB (Front Side Bus) can be installed for symmetric multiprocessing (SMP). (6) memory slots allow for the installation of 12GB of PC2100 ECC Registered memory which must be installed in matching pairs of RDIMMs.[Note: You must be running a 64-Bit Operating System or 32-Bit OS with Physical Address Extension PAE support to address memory above the 4GB barrier.]

Up to (6) 300GB U320 SCSI disk modules can be installed in the front bays of the server with the standard configuration. An optional (3) Bay backplane can be installed in the two 5.25" bays at the top of the server allowing for a total of (9) drives. The bays can be connected to the integrated U320 SCSI controller with RAID 1 support or to an optional ServeRAID controller. The standard RAID controller only allows a mirror of two drives plus one hot spare.
